JAPAN APRIL 2014- CHERRY BLOSSOM AND VIEWS OVER TOKYO

We enjoyed exploring the cherry blossom in the parks of Tokyo.

This couple visited the park after getting married. What an amazing kimono the lady is wearing. The man is also in traditional dress. Look at their shoes!

Friendly Japanese having lunch in the park. Note the tower blocks behind.

Couldn't resist having my photo taken here.

I caught the sunset through the blossom on this photo!

The boys!

The Metropolitan City Tower. We took the lift to the top.

For views over Tokyo. Unfortunately it was a bit misty. On clear days you can see Mount Fuji from here.

Our first view of the Cocoon Tower.

Closer view.

And view from the ground too.

Which photos did you enjoy most?

The cherry blossom or the architecture?

It definitely was a day of contrasts.

    1. Hi Pru

Glad you liked the photos. I really enjoy taking them.
I think that is why we liked the Cocoon building so much, because it reminded us of the Gherkin-the building in London.

    1. Hi Judy
We were so happy to go for the Cherry Blossom festival. Previously we'd thought of going in the summer but a friend of mine (who visits her brother regularly) warned us how hot it would be. Walking through the parks at night, it was all lit up and we saw friends and families all having picnics under the blossom trees. Great atmosphere.

The Cocoon tower just caught our eye from the Metropolitan Tower so when we went down we decided to go and find it. It was really unusual/clever they way it was built in an arch.

  3. Hmm, I think I like the second picture and the one of you with the cherry tree. Seeing both pictures have the cherry blossoms in it then I guess I enjoyed the cherry blossoms the best but I love the architecture too! That cocoon tower is pretty cool!

    1. Oh Ruth, how sweet you are to like the picture with me in it. I think it's the tree actually-it was pretty special.
Did you spot I was wearing my Tilly hat. I think it's the same as yours. Highly recommended.
The blossom was so pretty and there was hundreds of different types which are hard to capture in a photo.
The Cocoon Tower was so cool because it arched up from the ground.

    2. Yep, I sure did notice your hat. I had meant to put that into the comment but I forgot. I love my hat! Cant wait to get our clothes from them in the next week or so. I am hoping that they will fit nicely and be very long lasting, which I am sure they will be.

    3. I know exactly why you LOVE your Tilly hat Ruth. I love mine too. Lots of people have admired it and I've passed on the details.
You are very lucky to be getting some clothes. They are not cheap but as you say they are long lasting.

    1. Hi T'Pol
The kimono was just beautiful and I had a split second to take the photo. So glad I did before she disappeared.
I wonder which tower in Barcelona you are thinking of? I haven't been since I was 17.

  8. I have recently found your blogs (both of them now!) and am really enjoying them. My son would love to visit Japan so I have we have found all your photos interesting but my favourite is the newly-wed couple in traditional dress... so different from our white wedding dresses.

    1. Hi MAE and welcome! To both the blogs.
Glad you are enjoying them and my travel photos from Japan. I adored that dress. You may enjoy the photos I have coming up of a wedding that we were lucky enough to come across. Oh the beautiful bride! What an experience seeing her!

As you say sooooo different from our wedding dresses!

  9. Love the photo of the sun through the blossoms. You might even have passed my sister on the street during your travels - she was there for the cherry blossoms this year, too, before returning to Ireland after nearly seven years spent living down under.
