We took a short trip from Tokyo to Hakone to see the Giant Buddha statue.
It is a really easy trip-on overland then electric train.
You can even pay an entrance to go around the back of the statue.
Hakone is a beautiful area to walk and famous for its beetroot ice-cream.
On our return we decided to visit the busiest road crossing in the world.
Tokyo is an amazing and very safe city to see by night. Neon Lit.
And with surprises! We found a British pub to enjoy a pint of English beer.
Cheers! Even inside it was like a pub!
We hung out at Starbucks watching the people and the famous crossing.
We think we even found the lift from the film Lost in Translation.

It is in a private hotel but we managed to creep in. Imagine our surprise when half way up we saw a football match taking place on TOP of a skyscraper. AMAZING!
What has surprised and amazed you on your travels-near or far?

Fascinating to see your photos. Could not imagine going somewhere so busy! Crowds of people don't thrill me to be honest but the scenery and being there I'm sure would make up for it. Love the British pub!
ReplyDeleteIn answer to your question, what has amazed me on my travels is how much I absolutely loved Alaska. I never wanted to go there (it was always Roger's choice - we went to Canada and Alaska for his 60th birthday) but I just found the scenery so awesome - every corner you turned was another beautiful photo opportunity!
Oh and seeing orcas on our return ferry trip from Victoria to Vancouver - so overcome by seeing them so close to the ferry that I totally did not take any photos! But they are easily retrieved from my memory :)
Hi Judy
DeleteIt was strange how much I enjoyed Tokyo, as I think of myself as a country girl. I loved how happening it was there. Totally safe to stay out until late-which we did! We don't normally go into 'theme' pubs but we were looking for somewhere to have dinner and fancied a 'pint'.
Isn't it wonderful when you go somewhere that amazes you-especially if you never planned to go there in the first place! Mr Sft's last 2 choices of New Zealand and Japan has been incredible. I never would have had them on my list. You make me want to go to Alaska too!
The encounter with the orcas certainly sounds unforgettable! I would have appreciated seeing humpback whales more off the coast of South Africa if I hadn't been chucking up at the time. I do suffer from bad sea sickness!

Yep, that sure looks like lots of people crossing the road. With all the neon lights at night it reminds me a lot of Times Square in New York City.
ReplyDeleteI think the busiest city that we have ever been to is Mexico City with 23 million inhabitants. It will be interesting to see how busy Seoul will be next month.

Hi Ruth
DeleteI would like to go to Times Square one day. Definitely on my one day list.
Yes, it will be interesting to read your posts from Seoul. Are you going to post whilst you are there?
Wow, neat, especially the football match in the sky. The busiest city I have been to is Hong Kong at lunch hour where you literally have to hold your friends hand or be lost in a sea of people. Love your pictures!
ReplyDeleteHi CC
DeleteYes the football match was a real 'wow' moment.
I really enjoyed Hong Kong but it was soooooo busy! When did you go? Did you travel into China too?
